STONE SOUP STORYTELLING WORKSHOP (AND OPEN MIC SESSION)

Red Phoenix Logo

@ Room 7, Alton Community Centre as part of Alton WordFest.

This workshop is for anyone who has ever watched, read, heard, created, written or told a story. Stone Soup (sometimes known as Nail Soup) is an Old European story in which one little stone can provide so much. Soup has through the ages been a food of comfort, healing and warmth, and this is also true of stories, quite literary food for the soul, where the ingredients are our own hopes, fears and experiences. In this workshop professional storyteller, Red Phoenix, will provide the ‘stone’ through techniques and support participants to develop their own story ‘ingredients’ in order to create or adapt tales to share in their chosen medium. The workshop will include an interval and an ‘open mic’ session hosted by the ‘Alton Storytellers’ so you can test out your new skills.
7pm, 4th October 2011.

scary woods

@ Queen Elizabeth Country Park

This Halloween the visitor centre at Queen Elizabeth Country Park is transforming! There have been many urban legends of weird goings on at Halloween but none so strange as the ‘Phantom Picture Palace’. Tales tell of how perfectly normal places suddenly turn into a creepy old cinema of yester-year, with its manager Mr Von Hackenslash all ready to welcome in a live audience, but can never guarantee they will stay that way! Come ready for an evening of thrills, chills and blood curdling screams, aimed at adults (minimum age 15yrs), fancy dress encouraged.

The evening will be filled with menacing movies, creepy characters, gruesome games, including for all those wishing to partake a fancy dress competition, and spooky stories from Red Phoenix.

The Highlight of the evening will be a movie premiere. Mancini Pictures Ltd. are welcomed back again this year with an all new instalment in the ‘October 31st’ series as ‘October 31st: Alone’ premieres, along with another chance to see ‘October 31st: Its my Party’ which was shot on location in the woods at Queen Elizabeth Country Park (find out what lurks in those woods!). There will also be an opportunity to meet the director and cast.
